Catherine Scanlon teaches in-person art classes and workshops in the New England area and online classes through her on-line classroom website Merrymeeting Art House. Teaching since 2005, her philosophy is that everyone is creative in some way. Students simply need to practice in a positive, loving environment where they can be inspired and learn from each other.
In Catherine’s classes, students are encouraged to follow their own creative spirit and create in way that makes them happy. While she teaches them everything they need to accomplish the course objective, students are encouraged to create in the way that is most comfortable to them. Her goal is to enhance the creative process and not stifle it and encourages students to infuse their own style into the techniques she teaches them.
Catherine Scanlon has offered over 100 art and craft online classes. Topics include card making, die cutting, art journaling, scrapbooking, mixed media, collage, image transfers, sewing and more. Each course includes either a PowerPoint presentation or a how-to video, PDF instructions, sample photography and lots of supportive student interaction.
Here’s what some of her students have to say about her on-line courses:
I’ve just completed the last lesson of this course and wanted to tell you straight away how much I loved it. Every time I finished a lesson, I found myself looking forward to the next one. For me, the course was inspiring and really informative. You’re a very talented lady! I didn’t do the assignments the first time through the course, but I’ve just got myself a spiral bound journaling book by Strathmore, like you recommended, and I plan to run through each lesson again and do the assignments one by one. I’m itching to get started. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and your great ideas. I loved the course and look forward to doing another one of yours soon. With very best wishes, Christine.
I am currently enrolled in the Art Journal Tool Box class. I just watched the intro video and wanted to sent a heartfelt thanks for it! Not only was it passionate and wholly authentic, but it gave me lots of ideas to add to my long list of ideas to try in an art journal. I am a scrapper, and an oil painter and I used to teach oil painting classes. I wanted to try watercolor and have taken some classes in it but it is a tough medium to work on for an oil painter….or maybe its just me! Anyway just wanted to send a big THANK YOU! On to the next video! I am so excited about this class. — Deena
Your classes ARE OUTSTANDING!!! Wow, my dear Catherine, I’ve learned soooo much. I LOVE your classes! Just watched Lesson 3! I’m so happy I decided to take this class! I’ve watched soo many videos of gel printing, but your lessons are the best. Since I’m a lefty, too, I don’t know why I didn’t think of making my books w/binding on top! I meant to tell you that w/your In & Out Journal class. Bobbie, Florida
